Għasri Parish's notices for this week are as follows:
1. Two Solemnities in the Coming Week: On Monday, 24th June, is the Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, and on Saturday, 29th June, is the Solemnity of the Apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul. It would be most appropriate for those who can attend Mass on these days to do so.
2. Meeting for Lectors: On Saturday, 29th June and Sunday, 30th June, after each Mass, I would like to meet with the lectors, and anyone who can and wishes to offer this service, to be present for that Mass. The meeting will last about 10 minutes.
3. Appointment of DSO: Our Parish's Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) is Lino Xerri. Each parish will have a person in the role of DSO (Designated Safeguarding Officer). The DSO of our parish is Lino Xerri, and in case of need, you can contact him on 79208153. The DSOs are a point of reference between the parish and the Safeguarding Commission (SGC), and their role is to ensure that the best safeguarding practices are being observed, to collect the list for POMA certification purposes, to receive complaints and communicate them with the parish priest and/or the SGC, and to attend meetings specifically for them.
4. Frame of Għasri's Titular Statue: I think you will agree with me that every house in Għasri deserves to have a beautiful picture, either of the Titular depicting the Lord's Last Supper, or of the Statue of Christ the Eucharistic Saviour, if not both. Therefore, we inform you that we have beautiful and large photos for sale, each costing only €5. These can be obtained from the parish office.
5. Decency Everywhere, Especially in Our Churches - Now that the heat is starting to be felt, we remind everyone to be honest in our attire everywhere, but especially in our churches. This applies to Sunday and weekday masses, as well as special occasions such as weddings: respect for decency does not disappear on special occasions.
6. Collection for Dar Arka next Sunday, 23rd June - In our diocese, the collection for Dar Arka was held on the Sunday when we had our Feast, and therefore we will hold it on the upcoming Sunday, 23rd June. As you surely know, Dar Arka takes care of people with special needs and is thus one of the charitable works carried out by our diocese; therefore, it is very fitting that we help as much as we can.
7. Parish Council Meeting postponed to Thursday, 4th July - Due to various circumstances, the next Parish Council meeting has been postponed to the first Thursday in July. This will be a concluding meeting for this pastoral year, during which we will evaluate the Feast and also discuss the Parish Priest’s inauguration. Therefore, I ask all members of the parish council not to miss it and anyone who has any suggestions should pass them on to me or one of the members.
8. Marian Wednesdays: Through a visit to the Madonna of Ta’ Pinu or to the Patronage Madonna, Mass is celebrated every Wednesday evening at 6.30 pm at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Patronage, preceded by the rosary and hymns at 6.00 pm. During these Marian Wednesdays, there is no Wednesday evening Mass at the parish church as per the times in this link: https://www.ghasriparish.org/en/mass-times-ghasri.
9. Feast of the Call of Our Lady of Ta' Pinu to Karmni Grima - On Saturday, 22nd June 2024. I believe that for many of us, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Ta' Pinu is a special place. Certainly, we have received many graces from it, and therefore, on the anniversary of the Call of Our Mother Mary to Karmni Grima and Franġisk Portelli, it is fitting that we visit this holy place. The masses at the Sanctuary on this day will be as follows: 6:00 am, 7:30 am, and at 9:00 am a Pontifical Mass by Bishop H.E. Msgr. Anton Teuma, followed by the supplication to Our Lady of Ta'Pinu. There will be another mass at 11:00 am. In the evening, there will be mass at 6:00 pm and at 7:30 pm a Pontifical Mass led by H.E. Msgr. Charles Jude Scicluna, Metropolitan Archbishop of Malta. I encourage everyone, but especially all families, to not miss visiting this sanctuary on this day and to pray for themselves and their loved ones for God's blessing and grace.
10. Confession Times: On Saturday, a visiting confessor will be available from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm. On Sunday, confession times are from 8.30 am to 9.00 am, 10.15 am to 10.45 am, and 5.55 pm to 6.15 pm. On the First Friday of the month, a visiting confessor will be available from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm. Additionally, every First Sunday of the month, a visiting confessor will be available throughout all Masses.
11. Communion for the sick (Viaticum) is given every Sunday after 8.30am's Mass.
